About Us - Who is behind it all?
CircusSeen was conceived following a chance meeting between Kate Wright and Jezz Fox at a circus skills workshop in Brighton. Kate and Jezz are both residents in Worthing and hope to use this project to establish a lasting circus scene for the town. After the project started other volunteers came forward to support and work with CircusSeen, here is a little info about them:
Kate Wright
Kate, aka Indian Fire, is the founder of Poi Passion - School of poi and fire performance. Known throughout the UK for her work in the community; running events and participating in carnivals, festivals, after-school clubs and summer camps. She thrives on the ability to make a difference in the lives of those she works with, especially children with special needs and learning disabilities. For more detailed information visit Kate's 'About kate' page at Poi Passion.com (www.poipassion.com).
Jezz
Jezz became interested in circus over 20 years ago when the New Circus movement started. He has concentrated on using circus skills as a hobby and method of relaxation rather than performance. He is self-taught in numerous skills including juggling and stilt walking, and has recently begun learning off-road unicycling!
Since moving to Worthing Jezz has been involved with a Brighton based charity, passingiton.org.uk, that raises money for education projects in Africa. He sees the development of CircusSeen as being the ideal way of making a worthwhile contribution to the local community.
Lily Lou
Over the last 10 years Fairy Lily Lou, also known as Lily Karrouze, has entertained thousands upon thousands of children and adults alike with her cheeky style and has become a well known personality in her field.
After co-founding a Circus charity in Worthing she turned her attention to new skills including stilt walking, juggling, staff, Diablo, and after 27 years of trying finally managed to hula hoop! Now she's working on perfecting this skill and progressing to a fire hoop for future performances. (www.fairyparty.co.uk)
Debbie
CircusSeen for me began as a family affair, with both my husband (Jezz who co-founded the group with Kate) and my son Alex being keen participants in all things circus. Over the last 20 years, I've been a spectator/supporter of Jezz's juggling, unicycling and stilt walking whilst pursuing my own passion for Tai Chi/Chi Kung and the occasional attempt at juggling! Since CircusSeen started a year ago, I've had the chance to develop my own circus skills and have evolved from a 'drop off mum' to volunteering at the group and teaching the rudiments of plate spinning, poi and diablo. It is a great opportunity to learn, share new skills and to be involved in the local community. I'm now enrolled on my first Poi course and look forward to the journey continuing...
Nick
Nick has been a circus volunteer working through CircusSeen Worthing since it's foundation in 2009. Perfecting his skills in juggling, unicycle, devil sticks and fire spinning he is a dedicated part of the circus team.
A qualified trampoline instructor, Nick has many years of experience teaching children and adults various skills, and now working on his performance techniques he's definitely one to watch in the future!
